What is Cyber Essentials?

The Cyber Essentials scheme was developed by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and is backed by the UK Government.  The NCSC was established in 2016, and work closely with law enforcement, defence and intelligence agencies in the UK and internationally.

The NCSC main duties include:

  • Offer practical guidance for cyber security.
  • Respond to cyber security incidents.
  • Promote UK cyber security.
  • Secure public and private sector networks to reduce cyber risks.

This is the basic certification and requires a self-assessment to be completed.  This assessment has been created to protect organisations from the majority of common cyber threats and attacks.  Certification offers confidence that there are important technical controls in place within the certified organisation.

This is an advanced certification and includes all information as above, as well as an independent review of the technical measures that you have in place for cyber security.
