The North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA) has recently contacted Information and Sample Coordinators (ISCs) at UK well operators about reporting legacy well data. Any company responsible for a well in the North Sea, drilled before 2018, will now be working hard on pulling together the necessary scope-of-work documentation.
ISCs must provide a plan for submitting all outstanding legacy well data to the National Data Repository (NDR) – including a timeline – by 31st January 2026. Depending on the size of the operator, and the number of wellbores, the process to locate, check and submit the data could take years. Board-level approval will typically be required, as a substantial budget will have to be allocated in many cases. So getting the implementation plan right, now, is crucial.
By the 31st January 2026 deadline, you’ll need to outline the work required to fully report all pre-2018 offshore well data. Your plan will need to cover information like this:
The number of pre-2018 wells you’re responsible for
How complete your submitted data is currently
Where you’re missing information
What your current scanning process is
How long it will take you to submit the data
Which 3rd parties you’ll work with and how you’ll manage the process
89%
of the UK’s well operators store data with us
If you’re a busy ISC, you don’t have to tackle this NSTA requirement alone. Here at OASIS, we have an experienced, highly-qualified team of people who excel in classifying, protecting, and extracting the value from data across the full E&P (exploration and production) cycle. Working with subsurface data as long as we have means we’ve built up an in-depth knowledge of NDR and NSTA requirements.

As you complete your reporting plan, you’ll need to include details of any partners you plan to work with. Here’s how we can make your NSTA legacy well data submission process cost-effective and stress-free.
We can:
Check what you’ve already submitted and what’s missing
Clean up what’s already in the NDR (add missing CTAGs)
Review and submit digital files
Check through your physical archives (whether stored with us or not)
Scan, and redact GDPR information where required
Upload and correctly add CTAGs, for all necessary submissions
Securely destroy any unnecessary data or loaded data
Support with the transfer and submission of geological samples
Creating your plan, and undertaking the submissions themselves, needs to be as straightforward and budget-friendly as possible. That means working with a specialist in this sector, like us.
