CNR International
Outstanding team-working, organisation and attention to detail meant 1,720 boxes of well logs, maps and drawings were successfully digitised and uploaded for NSTA compliance within 8 months.
In 2024, the subsurface data team at CNR International was tasked with the project of digitising 1,720 boxes of subsurface data to comply with
North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA) regulations. The documents included well logs, reports, maps and drawings. All relevant metadata would need to be captured and scanning outputs had to meet the regulatory loading requirements.
To meet the 18-month project timeline we increased our dedicated team supporting CNR International from two to ten people, working across three scanning locations: Winchester, Aberdeen and Dundee. We worked closely with the client team to help them develop customised project trackers to keep on top of:
Potential inefficiencies were identified and addressed from the start. The process of scanning individual records to respond to the priorities of the CNR International’s subsurface team meant the same boxes and data were often revisited more than once. Working together with CNR International’s data team we recommended a project plan which involved scanning the entire box contents and capturing the metadata. The new approach met the needs of the subsurface team while all data was efficiently indexed and digitised, duplication was eradicated and no data was missed.
Not only was the project to scan 1,720 boxes of subsurface data successful; it was completed early, in March 2025. The entire process took 8 months rather than the original estimate of one-and-a-half years. The benefits for CNR International include:
1. Cost Effectiveness
£200,000 has been saved by moving away from the original ad hoc processes. The shorter project timeframealso meant the whole project needed less budget, plus digitisation freed up approximately 2,838 cubic feet of storage space, saving around £7,000 per year.
2. Compliance Confidence
By completing the digitisation phase of the required NSTA submissions so quickly, CNR International was able to update the regulator on progress milestones, creating confidence in their overall compliance plan.
3. Business Effectiveness
The project management and digitisation knowledge gained through this project will be used to increase CNR International’s efficiency in future programmes.
“I’m delighted that close collaboration with OASIS Group and a dedication to meticulous, rigorous process and project management meant we could successfully deliver this project in a cost-effective manner, and in under half the projected time.”
